Why We Love Vampires
Vampires are monsters. They are immortal killers that can take your life at any moment. We should be scared and repulsed, but we aren’t. Instead, we are fascinated by these creatures. There are several reasons why we love vampires. The truth is, we find them sexy, powerful and vulnerable, and we can relate to them.
Sexy Vampires
Vampires are sexy; at least the girls who play them are. What’s not to love about some beautiful Easter European girl dressed in a tight leather outfit? They are sexy, mysterious and maintain their cool at all times.
Powerful Vampires
Who doesn’t want to be powerful? Vampires can do pretty much anything they want to and they are immortal. They have little to fear. Very little can destroy them. Even if you don’t want to live forever, the thought of being immoral is at least fascinating.
Vulnerability
Vampires are vulnerable, despite their sexiness, immortality and power. Sure, they’re killers, but they are also lonely and suffer. How can you not feel sorry for the poor vampire who struggles with what he has become, who watches the ones he loves die of old age, and who has no friends. It really isn’t their fault that they kill after all. They are just trying to survive. Inside that monster is a sensitive soul who wishes for and desires love.
We Can Relate to Vampires
We may not be immortal or as sexy or powerful as vampires, but we can still relate to them. We can put ourselves in their shoes. What would we do if we were vampires? It is easy to imagine the struggles we would face if we must consume the blood of humans. The loneliness and vulnerability are equally easy to imagine. Vampires were once mere humans just like us. They are victims of circumstance and what they have become. When it boils down to the nitty gritty, they really aren’t so different from us.
