Who are common modern Vampires in Popular Culture?

Written by admin on . Posted in Mythology & Folklore

Robert M asked:

From a feared monster to a fascinated pop culture icon, Vampires have evolved considerably since their conception. Popular culture has twisted the myth of Vampires into a commonly accepted “creature of the night.” In any medium (books, tv, movies, poems, etc), who are some noted modern Vampires in popular culture and what do they contribute to the culture that makes them stand out?

Reference links are appreciated.

Well TV has Buffy – so that gave us Angel and Spike! Anne Rice writes about them – so you get the vamps for Interview with a Vampire

    Popular culture vampires.

    Books:

    1) Laurel K Hamilton – Anita Blake Vampire hunter series
    2) Kim Harrison – author of books on the supernatural
    3) Ann Rice

    TV
    1) True Blood – HBO
    2) Buffy the Vampire Slayer
    3) X-files
    4) Angel

Most of these stories contribute by having strong women character fighting evil.

Lestat, whom (i am going by the movie as i have not had the chance to read the book} teaches us to be outgoing and extravagant in all things. he teaches us who are still alive to embrace life with the same vivacity that he embraces his eternal undead-ness.
