What would a vampires significance be in the world?

Okay… so supposedly, everything has a significance in the world. For instance, trees provide oxygen, textiles, food, shade, etc… Horses provide food and transportation. Lets pretend for about five minutes that vampires are real. What would their significance be? Population control perhaps?
And yes.. I put this question in two categories. I thought it might increase the variety and numbers of answers.

Well, the same significance as all the big predators maybe?
They would become the ultimate hunt for man I guess.
But after reading the Twilight books I don’t think man could hurt a vampire.
I would just like to say that I lol’d at Liz’s answer. Made me laugh. *pictures a vampire hard at work in the mines*

Most would base the answer on the pure fact that vampires are predators. So, yes human population control would be it’s main contribution to the world. Think of it like cheetahs, what do they give the planet except from great fur?

I don’t think so…we already have stupidity to control the population and its everywhere in a way a Vampire could never be. If there were really Vampires since they’re immortal we could send them to fight the wars and do dangerous jobs like working in coal mines

or if they are like the cullens, then to stop people from killing other people
If someone goes around killing people, they’ll be turned into a vampire and be taught to only eat animals (vampire vegetarian) and not kill humans

If vampires existed, some significances they might have could be :
1. Black Ops Teams for the Military and Government
2. Over night construction workers
3. Night security guards

I agree on Population Control of Humans. The world is way overpopulated. I think people who have children, who dont work, rely on government, welfare, help to feed and take care of their children because they have to many kids, should have a restriction on how many children they are allowed to have.
But, in all the stories dont the bitten turn into vampires as well. So that wouldnt help either.

Well since vampires don’t exist and there are different varieties of fictitious vamps who knows? For example, in Twilight vamps kill humans when they drink their blood. However, in the series I am reading now the vamps only need a few gulps/sips of blood and only drain by choice or way of killing.
So you see, vampires are so complex its hard to tell.
If vampires existed and scientists ran tests on them maybe we would know more.

If they actually existed, they would probably be similar to the development of other predators. They would be a niche predator, since it seems like they hunt people pretty exclusively. I don’t know how necessary vampires would be for population control, since human population only recently became an issue. It seems that diseases, food supply, and war have been pretty effective up to this point. If vampires were to go out of control and have their way with the human race, they’d run out of food and die. I think that there would probably be some vampires that would “come out” and integrate with regular society as well; they wouldn’t all stay hidden forever.
The Twilight books take quite a few liberties with the vampire mythology, so I wouldn’t use them for “proof” of anything vampire-related.

Eradication of the human race or in the very least they would turn us into what we have done to cattle and pigs, farm animals! They can be as greedy as us. Except their greed and lust for blood would outweigh our greed for money and lust for power.
