What is a really really good book about vampires and vampyres? i need it all simple and complex information?
Michelle asked:
though i don’t believe in vampires or vampyres, i do find their fictional characters very interesting and would love to learn more about them. in many hollywood movies they are portrayed the same but with slight differences. i want the whole meat of it.

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer is the best vampire book you can find. It’s about vampires and it’s a romance. The second is New Moon and the third is Eclipse.

Vampire Plauges: London, 1850 by Sebastian Rook is the first in three or six, I’m not sure, its a very confusing thing…About a boy named Jack Harkett and his friends Emily and Benedict Cole. There trying to defeat the Mayan vampire god Camazots who possesd a family friend, Sir Donald. Its a very good book, I couldn’t put it down. It may seem odd, but it gets very, very good. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

I don’t know about books that have all the different portrayals of vampirism, but if you want a book with a different look at it try the Kim Harrison novels. They are: “Dead Witch Walking” (the first one in the series), “The Good, the Bad, and the Undead”, “Every Witch Way but Dead”, “A Fistful of Charms”, and “For a Few Demons More”. The vampires in the book are fairly origional and certainly different the than “hollywood vampires”.

I loved Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse, all by Stephenie Meyer. The story is about a human girl and vampires, and they were the first vampire books I’d ever read. Next up would be the Vampire Kisses series by Ellen Schreiber. There are TONS more out there but that’s all i can think of for now. Have fun reading!

Since vampires are “fictional” characters / creatures – their “powers” and attibutes will change with each author’s interpretation of them.
In some stories – all they are is immortal bloodsuckers. In others – they possess all sorts of “supernatural” abilities (shape-changing, turning into mist, telepathy, control of bats and wolves, etc., etc.) There’s no rhyme of reason to it – it’s purely the way any particular writer wants to portray them (or those particular abilities will play a part in the overall story arc).
I don’t know if there is any ONE book that will tell you EVERYTHING about vampires — since as soon as such a book were written, someone else will come around with a story which says something slightly different & suddenly – that book is obsolete.
…the books mentioned above are all good resources – but there’s never going to be any DEFINITIVE text on these fascinating (fictional) creatures.

Why don’t you go with the original classic: Dracula by Bram Stoker?
BTW: Stoker was inspired by the real man called Vlad the Impaler. You may want to read this book Dracula, Prince of Many Faces: His Life and His Times by Radu R Florescu and Raymond McNally. Here’s part of Amazon’s description “The fictional Dracula of Bram Stoker’s novel is better known than the actual Vlad Dracula the Impaler, who ruled as prince of Wallachia for three brief periods in the mid-15th century. This study by two Boston College professors who have written other books about Dracula explores how the legend of the Transylvanian vampire arose. As a ruler, Dracula spread terror far and wide, inflicting appalling tortures on his victims, killing them by impalement, by boiling or skinning them alive. Yet when the time came to defend Europe against Turkish invaders, he led the battle, and the authors view him as “the first modern Renaissance prince of the land.” Florescu and McNally offer so much detail about the battles of kings, princes, princelings and claimants to thrones that the book will appeal only to the most ardent Dracula fanatics.”
