Twilight question!!!?

I watched the movie, and I don’t get it… Why doesn’t he just bite her, so that she will be a vampire, and they can live happily ever after forever? Is there something I’m missing? I am going to read the book, will that explain it?

if you read the book, it’s more descriptive,
but it doesn’t fully still tell why he doesn’t bite her.
But if I did read it correctly and not misunderstand anything,
I think it’s because there are many bad things that will happen to a vampire and it will be harder for Bella to live, and Edward doesn’t want that
and it’s supposed to be more romantic.
