When did Vampires and lycans start going hand in hand?
So here’s my question.
We have Vampires Vs. Lycans, Pirates Vs. Ninjas, everything. But when did the Vampires and Lycans stories start going hand in hand? How were they related in the first place to actually be able to be a valid enemy?
There are similarities, after all, such as they both come out at night, they both infect by biting…but why were they enemies and where did the connection come from?
Curiosity burns, speculations and evidence is welcome.
Seems a natural pair to me. Supernatural monsters made to antagonize each other. I used to wonder what took them so long to get the movies made…then when they did…igh.
I read something years ago, that the mythology was common…a vampire was basically a disembodied spirit, looking for life; something physical to occupy. A spirit like that couldn’t take on big complicated things, like people, but could occupy an animal (bat, wolf, etc.) and gradually, as the body became accustomed to the inhabiting spirit, it would develop the sprit’s familiar traits/characteristics, like working hands or face. Werewolves used to be just dire wolves with some kind of human feature. So, basically, vampires and werewolves are the same thing, just at different stages of development.
Wish I could remember the source, but hasn’t been interesting to me since high school. It was Egyptian, I think.
