How to run Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines on Vista?

I just installed Vampire: the Masquerade Bloodlines on my laptop and I can’t get it to work. I downloaded the 1.2 patch and installed it, but it still won’t work. When I try to start it, it pulls up a black screen and then a box pops up saying that it has failed to run and that windows will try to diagnose the problem.
I’ve been looking all over the net at different patches, and I’ve been reading about different settings to adjust on the computer to make it run, but honestly I don’t really understand how to do any of it.

If anyone has easy instructions on how to make this game run I would really appreciate your help.

You are going to need to reinstall XP, the game Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines is not compatible with Vista, hence the errors. If you would like to play other 3rd Person Action games that do work with Vista, try Max Payne 2.
