How can I fix Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines crash?

I’ve been working on this damn game for about a week now messing around with different patches and crack, nothing seems to work. I got it from a torrent site It installs fine I get to the tittle screen when i hit new game it crashes saying that “vampire caused an Access Violation in module engine.dll” I just don’t understand and I’m about ready to give up any help would be appreciated. Oh and don’t leave any butt-hurt remarks like “You should have paid for it.” or “Thats illegal.” If i or anyone wanted to hear useless comment we wouldn’t be posting for answers…
